    Menopause and hrt monitoring

    Sajeel Abrar GPHC-2066354 Independent Prescribing Pharmacist · 12/09/2025 · 1 min read

From blood pressure to bleeding patterns how we keep HRT safe and personalised.

    Why do we monitor HRT?

HRT can transform how you feel but like all medical treatments, it needs to be tailored and monitored over time. Regular reviews ensure your dose is effective, safe, and aligned with your body's changing needs. Monitoring also helps spot rare but important side effects early.

    What do we track?

Your prescriber may monitor: Blood pressure, weight, bleeding patterns, and symptom control. If needed, we might also check your cholesterol, liver function, or hormone levels (like estradiol or testosterone). If you're on testosterone, we track that too making sure it stays in the female therapeutic range.

    Do I need blood tests?

Most women don't need routine blood tests to start or stay on HRT. Diagnosis and dosage are based on your symptoms and clinical history. However, tests may be needed if you're younger (under 40), on certain medications, or using testosterone.

    What about bleeding on HRT?

Light spotting can be normal in the first 6 months especially with sequential HRT. But persistent bleeding, or any bleeding after 6 months on continuous HRT, should always be reviewed. It doesn't always mean something serious, but it's worth checking.

    How often are check-ins?

We usually recommend a 3-month review after starting HRT, followed by yearly check-ins. But you can speak to us any time. If your symptoms return, change, or you're unsure that's what we're here for.

    The takeaway

HRT is most effective when it's monitored, reviewed, and adapted as your needs change. We stay with you every step from your first patch to your long-term plan.

"HRT is safe when monitored correctly we're here to make sure your treatment is both effective and tailored to you."
