Can testosterone help in menopause

Low libido, fatigue, or foggy thinking? Testosterone might help even if you're not a man.
Why consider testosterone?
If you're on HRT but still struggling with low libido, lack of motivation, or mental fatigue testosterone could be the missing piece. Although primarily thought of as a male hormone, women produce testosterone too and levels drop sharply during menopause.
What does testosterone do in women?
Testosterone supports sexual desire, energy levels, memory, and overall mental clarity. Low levels can leave you feeling flat, unmotivated, and disconnected from yourself.
Is it safe for women?
Yes when prescribed in the right dose and monitored properly. In the UK, testosterone for women is used 'off-label' but is supported by NICE guidelines when libido remains low despite estrogen-based HRT.
How is it taken?
Usually as a daily cream or gel (e.g. Androfeme) applied to the skin. It's monitored through regular blood tests to ensure levels stay within the female therapeutic range.
What to expect
Improvements in libido, focus, energy and mood may take 8–12 weeks. Some women report feeling more like themselves connected, creative, and confident again.
The takeaway
Testosterone isn't a magic fix but for many women, it's the missing link in a personalised menopause treatment plan.
"Testosterone isn't just for men it plays a vital role in women's energy, mood, and sex drive."
