Ozempic vs Mounjaro

Both help with weight but work in different ways.
Ozempic, Wegovy, and Semaglutide
All three contain the same active ingredient—semaglutide. But the difference is in licensing and dosage. Ozempic is licensed for diabetes. Wegovy is licensed for weight loss, with higher dosing and different patient monitoring requirements.
Mounjaro: dual-action benefit
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. This dual mechanism appears to improve insulin sensitivity, reduce appetite, and increase fat breakdown more effectively than semaglutide alone.
How they feel in real life
Some patients report Mounjaro works faster or lasts longer between doses. Others prefer semaglutide (Wegovy) due to simpler titration or fewer GI symptoms. Your experience may vary—we personalise based on your symptoms, medical history and response.
Why Saha doesn't prescribe Ozempic
In the UK, Ozempic is only licensed for type 2 diabetes—not weight loss. That's why we prescribe Wegovy (for weight loss) or Mounjaro (if eligible), in line with MHRA, NICE, and patient safety guidance.
Which one is right for me?
If you've tried lifestyle changes and qualify by BMI or medical risk, Wegovy may be a good first step. If you've already used GLP-1s and need greater appetite or insulin resistance control, Mounjaro may offer more benefit.
The takeaway
Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are effective, licensed options for weight loss. We guide you to the right choice based on your body, your goals, and your clinical safety.
"Think of Ozempic as a volume dial—Mounjaro is a two-knob stereo."
